- Distinguish and locate fiction and non-fiction books
- Begin to identify and distinguish genres
- Search the OPAC using title, author, and keyword
- Brainstorm key words and utilize internet search skills
- Identify, distinguish among and utilize reference materials
- Access and navigate websites
- Begin to paraphrase, take notes and avoid plagiarism
- Apply knowledge of title page to cite sources
- Create digital finished products to display research
Our fourth grade library curriculum covers the following library, literature and research skills:
- Access catalog with minimal support
- Locate book independently or with minimal assistance
- Differentiate between genres and select according to interest and reading level
- Identify and utilize digital resources and websites for research
- Differentiate among reference materials and determine appropriate use of each
- Evaluate sources and information, paraphrase to take notes, and avoid plagiarism
- Take notes using various organizers
- Cite sources in simple MLA format
- Create digital finished products to display research
Our fifth grade library curriculum covers the following library, literature and research skills:
- Recall information from book talks/recommendations and use it as a guide when selecting books
- Recognize and distinguish among genres
- Recall information presented by visiting authors/illustrators in order to better understand the process of creating literature
- Utilize the OPAC when choosing books
- Take notes using various organizers
- Locate sources using call numbers independently
- Evaluate sources
- Use MLA format to cite sources
- Brainstorm search terms when using the internet
- Differentiate among databases and websites
- Adhere to copyright guidelines and avoid plagiarism
- Create digital finished products to display research
